We Raised $14 Million to Build the Planning Engine for Construction

MeltPlan raises $14M in Seed funding led by Bessemer to build the Planning Engine - a construction-native AI system for smarter code compliance, cost, schedule, and value decisions | Architects, Engineers, Contractors, Inspectors.

We’re excited to share that MeltPlan has raised $14 million (till date) and $10 million in seed funding led by Bessemer Venture Partners, with participation from NoaVC and WND Ventures.

This funding will be used to further develop what we call the Planning Engine for the $14 trillion construction industry – an AI system designed specifically to optimize decisions before construction begins. The funding will accelerate our product development across code, cost, schedule, and value decision systems.

The Missing Layer in Construction Tech

While design software optimizes use and aesthetics and construction software optimizes execution and control, we are building the missing layer – software that optimizes decisions and tradeoffs upstream, before scope is locked, procurement begins, and change orders become inevitable.

We founded MeltPlan in 2025 with this belief:

Construction doesn’t fail because teams are not skilled or execute poorly.
It fails because preconstruction teams are fragmented and commit too early with incomplete information.

As our Co-founder and CEO Kanav Hasija puts it:

“Construction doesn’t fail because teams are not skilled or execute poorly. It fails because preconstruction teams are fragmented and commit too early with incomplete information. We’re building an AI system that allows teams to evaluate constraints, run scenarios, and align before plans are frozen.”

Kanav previously co-founded Innovaccer, a $3 billion health tech startup focused on making healthcare in the US more affordable and accessible. He is now focused on making the construction industry in the US more productive.

He is joined by Tanmaya Kala, our Co-founder and COO, who previously served as a Project Executive at DPR, handling large commercial, healthcare, and life science projects.

Our long-term goal is to help teams make construction “boring” by making planning more intense – surfacing constraints and tradeoffs early, aligning stakeholders before plans are frozen, and reducing the need for late-stage redlines, rework, and change orders.

As Kanav says:

“Construction should be boring. Planning should be intense. If your construction phase is exciting, something went wrong earlier.”

Not Another AI Wrapper

We are not building a chatbot for construction.

While general-purpose AI tools are being layered onto construction workflows, we are building what we describe as a construction-native AI system – one designed to understand building codes, materials, sequencing, procurement constraints, and construction means and methods.

Our system has already passed building inspector exams with scores of 95% or more, and we are working to strengthen it across the full range of trades and skills used in construction planning.

In short, it behaves less like a search engine and more like a structured decision system.

As Tanmaya says:

“AI in construction can’t be a black box. If you’re influencing multimillion-dollar decisions, you need traceability, context-awareness, and guardrails built into the architecture.”

The Planning Engine

The Planning Engine will have four integrated systems:

Code System: Context-aware compliance pathways for architects, engineers, and inspectors.

Cost System: Risk-oriented takeoffs / quantity survey, bid scoping, and leveling for general contractor and trade contractor preconstruction teams.

Schedule System: Scenario-based sequencing and what-if planning before scope freeze.

Value System: Value impact analysis and optimization recommendations for owners and developers.

Our ambition is to move every critical decision upstream, where it’s still cheap to change.

A software once released with bugs can still be resolved.
A physical building cannot.

Backed by Bessemer

“More than 95% data in the construction industry is documents and images,” said Pankaj Mitra, Partner at Bessemer Venture Partners, who led this round. “We are excited to partner with MeltPlan because AI has unlocked the compute power on top of this construction data and this founding team of serial entrepreneur, AI expert, and construction industry domain expert is a powerful combination.”

Already Working with Enterprise Contractors

We are already working with top enterprise contractors like DPR in California and Innovo Group in the UAE to support their planning and preconstruction phases.

As Douglas Zuzic, Chief Digital Officer at Innovo Group, shared:

“We were amazed at how quickly MeltPlan connected to our data and surfaced planning insights, while allowing us to interact conversationally with project information.”

And as Atul Khanzode, CTO at DPR Construction, said:

“As responsible contractors, we always believe in investing more time in preconstruction. We are excited to pilot MeltPlan to help us reduce planning errors while speeding up the preconstruction process.”

What Comes Next

This funding allows us to accelerate development across Code, Cost, Schedule, and Value – and deepen our partnerships with forward-thinking teams who believe planning deserves more intelligence.

If you’re an architect, engineer, contractor, or developer who believes the most important decisions happen before ground breaks – we’d love to talk.

Construction doesn’t have to be chaotic. Preconstruction doesn’t have to be fragmented.

We’re building the Planning Engine to help teams evaluate smarter, align earlier, and execute with confidence.

And we’re just getting started.
